The series is brought to you by members of Oxford's two orienteering clubs:

Thames Valley OC

Oxford University OC

Results for October now available

Thanks to everyone for coming despite the damp weather, I hope you enjoyed your runs. The results are now available with Routegadget to follow soon. Congratulations to Ben Stevens who won by a comfortable margin, and to Roger Thetford and Rosemary Dyer who lead the series after the first two races.

Only five days to go to the next event

Early runners last month had the advantage of daylight, but not this time! The next street-o event is on Tuesday, based at the University’s Iffley Road sports centre. Come along at any time from 6.30, and remember to order food before you run if you want it.

Routegadget for Headington available

The map for Wednesday’s Headington event has now been posted on Routegadget. For those of you who haven’t done much orienteering, this is an online tool which lets you draw the route which you took and compare it with others. For example, you can compare the relative distances of each runner’s route – did you pick a more efficient route than your rivals? It’s also possible to watch an animation of everyone’s progress as if we all started together. Routegadget gets more interesting the more people draw their routes, so please add yours when you get the chance (assuming that you can remember it!).

Results for Headington available

Thanks to everyone for coming to run around Headington this evening, and to Blanka for planning. It made for a very successful start to the season with the most runners we have ever had! Results are now available, with Routegadget to follow soon.

Less than a week to go…

The countdown to this year’s first street-o event has reached four days to go, so I hope you’re all prepared for this season and that we get a big turnout in Headington on Wednesday. Look out for a slight modification to the mapping standards – we now have a special symbol to highlight roads and paths which do not have street lights, though with start times from 6.30pm early runners will no need to worry about this as it won’t be very dark!

Changes for this season

Last season went well, but there are a couple of key changes this time round:

  1. There are now eight events rather than six (one a month from September to April), with the best four (rather than three) scores counting towards your overall score.
  2. The events will alternate between Tuesdays and Wednesdays rather than all being on the same day, to make it easier for people with a regular weekly commitment to participate.

Both of these come into effect with the first event, which takes place on Wednesday 21st September in Headington (based at the Britannia Inn on London Road). I hope to see lots of you there to get the season off to a good start!
