OSS February 2016 (Summertown)
17th February 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
£2The sixth event in the Oxford Street-O Series for 2016 is set for Wed 17th Feb. Organised by Ben Green. Hopefully it will be dry evening, but it is still February so be prepared to bring your thermals and gloves.
Event Centre
The event centre will be at the organisers address, 39 Oakthorpe Rd, Summertown, OX2 7BD. Access will be via the side passage to the right of the house (There will be a control flag at the location)
Parking
Definitely not possible on the event road or neighbouring roads, however there is parking at Diamond Place or Ferry Leisure Centre (a couple of minutes walk), 1.20 for an hour, 1.70 for two hours, free after 8pm. Alternatively almost any bus north from the city centre will stop a short walk from the event centre. There is free parking after 6.30 on various residential streets in North Summertown, a short jog away.
Please come on foot, by bicycle or by public transport (including Park & Ride) if possible.
Race Format
60 minute score (visit as many controls as you can and return within 60 minutes). Remember to bring a watch and a pen! Start times are between 6.30pm and 8pm, starting whenever you’re ready. See About Street-O a more detailed description.
Terrain
Largely tarmac roads and paths with no significant hills. Most roads have a 20mph limit. Nevertheless the traffic is busy in places and you must take care crossing all roads and make use of pedestrian crossings where available. A head torch may be useful as there are some unlit paths.
Road crossings
The A40 is very dangerous and must ONLY be crossed at the four marked points on the map.
Both Woodstock and Banbury Roads will have significant traffic, especially for the earlier runners; great care should also be taken when crossing them.
Social & Food
If you can, please stay after you have run to discuss routes, mistakes, the weather or anything else that takes your fancy.
Food is available for 2 pounds per person. Please let Ben the organiser know by email if you would like some food, so that the cooking quantity is known in advance. Preferably as soon as possible.
