OSS December 2015 (Kidlington)
15th December 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
£2December’s race will be around the streets of Kidlington, planned by Carol Edwards. Another tricky area with a modern housing estate of roads and footpaths giving plenty of route choice.
Event centre
The event will be Based at The Black Horse, Kidlington on the A4260.
Car Parking
There is a small amount of parking in front of the pub. Also there is a public car park behind it. Coming from the south, turn right at the traffic lights, into Sterling Road Approach, and follow the signs to the public car park. You can park in the long stay area for 3 hours. The car park has camera monitoring of number plates, and if you stay longer than 3 hours you are charged £70!
Buses from Oxford
Kidlington is served by the city2 buses from Oxford. Details of routes, timetable and fares are on the Oxford bus web site. Oxford buses city2
Cycling
Cycling from Oxford should not be a problem.
Roadworks
There are road works, with single lane approaches, at the Cutteslowe roundabout in North Oxford. From the south, the A34 route is fine, using the Woodstock/Blenheim exit, then heading for Kidlington. From the M/A40 you can choose to put up with the possible delay on the A40 approach to the roundabout, or to turn off earlier and travel via Woodeaton and Islip.
Race Format
One hour score event: visit as many controls as possible within one hour. Bring a watch and a torch, and a pen/pencil to record your visits. A clear plastic bag to hold the map and clue sheet can be provided if it’s raining. Start and Finish are at the Black Horse. Starts are from 6.30pm to 8pm. You must not run inside the pub. See About Street-O a more detailed description.
Bonus Points
As this is the Christmas event remember your Christmas gear if you want to collect bonus points. The record is held by Marcin, who last year ran in full Santa Claus outfit and collected 40 extra points. But it’s OK to run with no Christmas spirit! Bonus points awarded by the organiser, usually the more Christmas apparel worn the more bonus points awarded.
Terrain
Largely tarmac roads and paths, but please cross carefully, especially the A4260, which bisects the area. Please make use of pedestrian crossings where available.
Social
As usual, please stay after you have run to discuss routes, mistakes, the weather or anything else that takes your fancy. Food can be ordered right up to nearly 10pm, so no worries about having to run early and get back in time.
