SUMMARY:OSS Event April 2014 (Botley)
DESCRIPTION:The final race of this season will be around the streets of Botley and is being planned by Heather Walton. If you are planning to come and would like food afterwards\, please send an email by Sunday evening (to mark@drongo.org.uk) – see the Social section below. There will also be a prizegiving once the final runner has finished. \nEvent centre \nThe Event Centre will be at 11\, The Garth\, Botley\, Oxford OX2 9AL. Note that there is pedestrian but not vehicle access from Westminster Way to Montagu Road. Parking is limited in The Garth so it is better to park in Montagu Road or Finmore Road or even better cycle or come on the bus. The 4A bus from Rose Hill and Iffley via the city centre stops in Finmore Road and the U1 from Headington and the city centre stops just after turning into Westminster Way. Many more buses from the city centre stop at Elms Parade on West Way (S1\, X30\, 4\, 4B\, 4C and probably others) at least every 10 minutes during the day; slightly less frequently later in the evening. You can find bus timetables for Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach online to check times that suit you. Although the map shows that Church Way does not connect\, you can just go through the car park to the west of the shops. \nRace Format \n60 minute score (visit as many controls as you can and return within 60 minutes). There is a penalty of 10 points for every minute or part minute that you are late. Remember to bring a watch and a pen! A head torch is recommended – streetlights are a bit more intermittent on roads as well as paths as you get further out. Start times are between 6.30pm and 8pm\, starting whenever you’re ready. See About Street-O for a more detailed description. \nTerrain \nTarmac roads and paths with plenty of hills. The A34 can only be crossed at the subways and bridges marked as crossing points on the map. Take care when crossing the Botley Road – you can take advantage of the many traffic lights and street bollards part way across the road. Other roads are reasonably quiet. \nSocial \nIf you can\, please stay after you have run to discuss routes\, mistakes\, the weather or anything else that takes your fancy. Food is kindly being provided by Heather – cost defined by the shopping bill divided by the number of people eating (probably around £3).  It would be useful to know who wants food by Sunday evening. \n
